Full-time MBA 2017

Prior to starting her Full-time MBA, Nicole Teng spent eight years in management consulting and strategic planning in the retail industry. Now, she's a senior business analyst at Australian airline Jetstar.

"After three years of management consultant work, I found myself passionate about solving business problems that could impact the organisation and community.

"I believe it was the right time for me to pursue an MBA degree to advance my knowledge and skills in business.
"I attended Information sessions held by different top-tier business schools and arranged several catch-ups with MBA alumni.
"However, MBS stood out as the best fit for me. I was pleased with the faculty, teaching style and the way the school spoke about diversity. Also, the one-year course structure seemed like the intensive experience I was looking for.
Nicole says it was a challenge leaving her home in China to go study overseas, but necessary to push herself out of the comfort zone.
"I'm a dream chaser, so while there were ups and downs along the way, I learned how to be resilient and persistent."
Including the lectures, study and networking time, Nicole says her time at Melbourne Business School was exceptional in every area.
"I enjoyed the whole journey of the MBA program. What I gained through it has far surpassed what I had expected before I started. It actually became something more meaningful than a just a qualification.
"The MBA taught me how to think creatively, go beyond the task, take the initiative and embrace the differences in everyone around you while still being yourself."
Nicole moved to Melbourne in 2016 and has enjoyed every minute.
"Melbourne is attractive in so many ways. Its multicultural cuisines, stylish architecture, convenient transportation, distinct coffee culture and, most importantly, its friendliness were great."
After graduating, Nicole landed at the Melbourne head office of Qantas subsidiary Jetstar Airways.
"I am now working as a senior business analyst in the digital delivery team at Jetstar. It's a great place to be. My key responsibility is to define needs, understand the rationale for change and recommend solutions that deliver value to both customers and the business.
"Key achievements so far include the successful launch of several key projects with significant business impact as well as 100 per cent on target and positive feedback from all the stakeholders in my annual performance appraisal."
Nicole credits her MBA with giving her the confidence to perform at the highest level.
"The skills I gained around teamwork, stakeholder management, strategic thinking, entrepreneurial and open mindedness are all used in my role at Jetstar."
While studying her MBA, Nicole was recognised in the Poets & Quants 2017 list of MBAs to Watch.
"That recognition was a great honour for me, and I’d like to say a huge thanks to the careers team for their continuous support and constructive mentoring, which helped I believe with the nomination and my career."
Nicole says landing a full-time job she wanted is an important reason for now calling Melbourne home.
"Melbourne suits me. It helped me to fulfil my career goal, and I'm pleased with the path I'm on."
